It’s November, Shoobies, and you know what that means: NaNoWriMo kicks off, winter challenges are going to start coming due, and here on the comm we’re ready for our second annual Miserable Fucks November Social!

So what’s all the fuss about, you might ask? Just this:

  • Daily check-ins: For the month of November we want your counts every day. But not just that, we want you! The mods and I have some interesting topics lined up for each and every day and we’d love for you to chime in even if you have no words at all.

  • Write at least 10 minutes every day: Whether you’re working on your NaNo or one of a thousand other projects, this is the month to move things along. Setting aside a daily block of writing time, even just ten minutes, is super helpful. Doesn’t matter what you’re writing – blog posts, personal journal entries, a list of all the reasons you hate writing – it’s all good!

  • Share your words: Fridays will still be Workshop days. Share your snippets, get some concrit, see what your fellow Shoobies are working on.

  • Let’s get motivated! Our main goal this month is to support each other in our writing endeavors. Cheer your fellow Shoobies on with words of encouragement, or offer a shoulder to cry on when the muse is being recalcitrant. The best thing about this community is how supportive we are of one another!

Since it’s the first day let’s do a Meet-and-Greet. Tell us a little about you – what your November goals are, what your writing headspace is at the moment (All the words? Snarling at anyone who gets too close to you? Gentle weeping?), and what fandoms you’re currently into, if any, or where your orig fic love lies.

Time to knuckle down and get serious, Shoobs! (Me especially!) Let the NoSo begin! ::clinks cocktail glass::

ETA: I've unlocked this post so that people who are considering joining the comm can get a taste for the fun and cheerleading we have here. This will be the only unlocked post.

Note from Management: I will unfortunately be at work for a chunk of the day today, in case anyone has questions or concerns. As soon as I get home, around 3:30 EST, I’ll hop on and see how everyone’s doing.

I haven't had this much stuff in my head wanting to come out for a long time, so all the words/snarling/occasional weeping are all possible descriptions of my headspace.

November goals: finish current kinkmeme fill which is about half done, finish my JS&MN series Over the Mountains, write some more of the poly 'verse, write some of my much neglected original fiction. maybe finally kick the sequel to Toy Soldiers into shape.

IGNORE Patterns of Light until it starts begging me to write it again, fuck it.

immediate goal: shake off the rags of my literal worst nightmare in ages, which took more than 10 minutes to write down, but I hope that's not going to be the only writing I do today.

Y'all almost make me feel bad about not participating. But yes, double yes, to writing 10 minutes a day. I want the writing bug back.

I'm not participating because I told myself I wouldn't start anything new until I finished my last successfully finished NaNo. I cheat a little with writing ideas and profiles, but I've been good on the whole.

So maybe this month I'll finish editing, or no - let's start smaller. This month I'll have edited all chapters from three pages to four pages. BOOM.

Well, I don't do NaNo because the one and only time I tried, I got my first/worst case of writer's block ever. I think it is because the tenants of NaNo are very different from how I normally write. However, I've been poking around for the better part of a YEAR working on this bloody novel, and I want to finish it by the end of the year, so this is as good a time as any to commit to writing a certain amount every day.

The current WIP is an original story set in the 1950s. My characters have been assigned to work undercover as a married couple to investigate strange happenings in a suburb. It's Ward and June Cleaver meets the X-Files. It's a departure for me, and as such, I've been struggling with it. I'm 45 K into it and have a LOT more story to tell, and it's apparent to me I'm going to have to take a chainsaw to it at some point and do some heavy pruning. But first I have to write the damn thing.

I am resolutely (and reluctantly) avoiding fandom at the moment. No fandom for me until I finish this stinking draft.

I will do my best to be back. I'm doing Yuletide this year, and I really intend to not just submit something adequate but to do my absolute best.

*hugs every one of you who wants hugs*

Can I come crawling back into the fold? I haven't written all year, pretty much, but in a moment of madness I signed up to Yuletide so I really have to write something before Christmas. Ten minutes of cursing and staring at the screen and sobbing per day sounds about the right amount. I can guarantee to be a super-miserable fuck when it comes to writing.

So my goal is very, very simple: write something. Preferably my Yuletide fic, but since I'm still reviewing canon right now that will have to wait a little bit longer, so there will have to be some kind of warm-up exercise. I guess I'll see what I feel like when I settle down for ten minutes of writing - which won't happen until the kids are in bed.

I'm honestly so overwhelmed by RL that I haven't had the time to stop and think about NaNo but I'll be attempting to finish my Losers/Pacific Rim fic and writing the sequel to my Tokyo Ghoul one. My main thing is going to be scheduling in writing time around working and studying but fingers crossed.

Oh well .. where to begin. My head is wrapped up in RL problems - namely in finding a new job since my company will throw me out at the end of the year. As the main provider of our family that threw me a bit off balance as you can guess - it's the main reason why I have been so absent lately.

I did some writing but not nearly enough since I sleep poorly from all the worrying that keeps sneaking up on me.

I desperately NEED to write the SGA santa I signed up for and the Winter in Hawaii thing, too. (Due end of the year)

And there is that other H five-0 story that kind of wants to be told, but I have leashed it because deadlines are deadlines.

These days I'm writing SGA, SPN, a tiny bit of MCU now and then and most recently H five-0. (You have to thank Bru for that, it's all her fault)

I hope to get my head sorted out and write a bit (and hopefully manage to snag a new job soon - those who know me have told me it was good riddance with the old one, but still) and I really do need to finish that santa. That's all I have planned for November and in my opinion, that's plenty already.

So, I can't promise to be here every day, but I'll do my best to put in an appearance whenever I can, okay?

I did twenty mins this morning, and ended up with fewer words than I started with, but at least they were better words!

In Nov, I will be mostly writing my BBC Merlin modern-day sequel, which is currently full of disaster, and I'm hoping will turn apocalyptic sometime soon. It's now at 20200 words and nowhere near an ending.

But! I have also signed up for Small Fandom Bang to write an Eagle of the Ninth story, and I have a WIP that has been languishing for some time about Cottia as a very old lady who solves crimes in Roman Britain. So I need to put some time into that as well.

BUT I have two big work projects that need to be done by Christmas AND another project that has gone sour and is eating way too much time and coping ability. I am a bit stressed about that. But still, writing things is good stress relief, yes/yes ?

Count me in. I've had a miserable time of it lately, writing scarcely a word in any way, shape or form. Must get back into it!

Good luck with the job situation and the sleep too.

I often feel like 'not sleeping should be a way of freeing up time for writing' AND YET.

It sounds like you have plenty planned for November.

Good luck with finding a new job - and one which you enjoy doing too!

Yay, perfect timing! I've spent all year writing a post-series White Collar 'verse, and I have one more story I want to get done before the end of the year (hopefully to round the wordcount out to a nice big number). I've given everyone a happy ending except June, so...

I've been feeling waffly and unmotivated and super-distractable, and dealing with various bodily aches and pains (particularly when sitting at the computer). Ten min/day is exactly the right goal. And I love check-ins!

*wishes us all luck and inspiration*

I go out for one day yesterday and come back to a week's worth of emails/LJ posts - how does that happen?

I have written 110 words plus a blog post. I'm supposed to be writing another short spooky fic, doing the washing up and tidying the floor where I dumped everything last night. And apparently I need to go to work tomorrow. Aarrgh. November was supposed to begin with me being cool, calm and collected.
