I thought we had a sticky post for this comm but it appears I never made one. Bad admin is bad! Under the better late than never category, here's what you need to know:

ushobwri is a community of creators who come together twice a week to support each other. Mondays are Inspiration days, when we're all urged to write at least ten minutes. Thursdays are for weekly wordcount check-ins and workshopping snippets of our writing. We're a very supportive group, so whether you're meeting all of your goals or none of them, we're here for you!

Da rules: We like to keep it simple. Be nice. Even if you don't agree with someone else's post, we want to keep this comm drama-free. Keep it safe for work. When you post a snippet, please label it in the subject line. Don't use NSFW icons. Remember that members are accessing the comm from public spaces as well as home. Contact admin if you have questions about anything!

Community events of note:

Let's Get WIP-ed Into Shape: In February our focus turns to WIPs. Making progress on them or, muse willing, finishing one! We'll help support you and cheer you on toward the finish line.

New Frontiers Challenge: April showers bring May flowers, and May flowers bring new challenges! The purpose of New Frontiers is to challenge ourselves to try something new. A new fandom, a new style of writing, a new pairing, etc.

Trope Fest: July on the comm is all about tropes - the ones we love, the ones we skip. Each posting day will focus on a different trope, and you're encouraged to share your thoughts, your recs, and your enthusiasm!

Monster Fest: Every October we spend the month talking monsters. All kinds of monsters! Some of us get inspired to create fannish works, but you're not required to do anything except chat up your favorite creatures.

Miserable Fucks November Social (MiFuNoSo): This is the big one! During the month of November we have daily posts on a variety of writing topics, and daily wordcounts to support anyone participating in NaNoWriMo and any number of other challenges and fests taking place in November.

All posts are locked, to make sure we have a safe space for our fannish joys, so you have to join to...well, join. ::grins::

comments

The mods and I are still figuring out the finer points of how things work here, so bear with us.

And speaking of trying new things, guess what we’re doing this month?

That’s right! It’s May here on the comm which means we’re encouraging you to step outside your comfort zone and write something you’ve been too afraid to try. For example: a pairing you’ve never written before, your fave characters as inanimate objects, a new fandom, a new trope, an original fic.

Since we are all busy Shoobies with a lot of irons in the fire, we’re keeping this roughly drabble-sized. Of course, if you’d like to do something longer I’m certainly not going to stop you. LOL!

We will share links/post our offerings at the last workshop day of the month, May 26th. Let’s explore some new frontiers! You know you want to! ::grins::

If you’re looking for some inspiration, may I suggest the daily prompts at comment_fic, or whatif_au which just put up a new AU theme for this month?

Anyone else have suggestions for inspiring some new fic directions?

comments

Just this:

Daily check-ins: For the month of November we want your counts every day. But not just that, we want you! The mods and I have some interesting topics lined up for each and every day and we’d love for you to chime in even if you have no words at all.

Write at least 10 minutes every day: Whether you’re working on your NaNo or one of a thousand other projects, this is the month to move things along. Setting aside a daily block of writing time, even just ten minutes, is super helpful. Doesn’t matter what you’re writing – blog posts, personal journal entries, a list of all the reasons you hate writing – it’s all good!

Share your words: Fridays will still be Workshop days. Share your snippets, get some concrit, see what your fellow Shoobies are working on.

Let’s get motivated! Our main goal this month is to support each other in our writing endeavors. Cheer your fellow Shoobies on with words of encouragement, or offer a shoulder to cry on when the muse is being recalcitrant. The best thing about this community is how supportive we are of one another!

Since it’s the first day let’s do a Meet-and-Greet. Tell us a little about you – what your November goals are, what your writing headspace is at the moment (All the words? Snarling at anyone who gets too close to you? Gentle weeping?), and what fandoms you’re currently into, if any, or where your orig fic love lies.

Time to knuckle down and get serious, Shoobs! (Me especially!) Let the NoSo begin! ::clinks cocktail glass::

ETA: I've unlocked this post so that people who are considering joining the comm can get a taste for the fun and cheerleading we have here. This will be the only unlocked post.

Note from Management: I will unfortunately be at work for a chunk of the day today, in case anyone has questions or concerns. As soon as I get home, around 3:30 EST, I’ll hop on and see how everyone’s doing.

( Icons! Holidays, family, crazy amounts of shopping and cookie baking. How can we find time for writing?

It's my hope that this community will serve as a place for motivation and support. I'll be the first to admit that, while I love creating with words, I don't always get myself moving to get any done. Not good, especially with WIPs hanging out begging for completion.

What I'd like to do is have a weekly check-in here on Wednesdays. That way we can see how each week is progressing without having to worry about doing it on the weekends when we're all extra busy. This check-in can consist of anything - inspiration, a bit of writing to share that you need opinions on, or just a weekly gripe about why it's impossible to get any writing done.

So what do you say? Shall we band together and see what we can get done with a little encouragement and pom-pom waving? And possibly alcoholic beverages?

Edited to Add: This is members-only, so don't be a lurker - join the community and let's have some fun!

comments
